The skin around our eyes is much thinner and more delicate than anywhere else on your body.

Under eye darkness begins in your capillaries, which are very tiny blood vessels that surround the thin skin around your eyes. These capillaries are so small that red blood cells have to line up to get through – they frequently wander into the surrounding skin and our bodies have a mechanism to mop up these stray blood cells. Enzymes in your body will break down the red blood cells (including their Hemoglobin that gives them a red colour). When Hemoglobin is broken down, the remaining components leave a dark bluish, black colour – just like a bruise, it’s the same mechanism. So leaky capillaries are responsible for the formation of dark circles, but other things can also impact this.

The number used is determined by an international standardised and calculated test method.

The sun protection factor identifies how much a sunscreen protects the skin in the sun without burning. Hence, a higher protection factor will give better protection, provided sufficient product is applied regularly. Using a higher SPF is designed to increase your level of protection, not the amount of time you can spend in the sun. Don’t forget that different people respond to sun exposure in different ways – those with fair skin need higher protection than those with dark skin. Also your reaction to the sun will depend on numerous factors such as the time of day, year, geographical location, the activities that you are doing, etc.

Melanin is the pigment in the skin, which protects the skin from sunlight. This pigment protects the skin from sunlight and can also protect against the signs of ageing.

However, as a result of the increased melanin and sun sensitivity, it is not uncommon for people from these geographical areas to develop pigmentation problems. Irregular pigmentation and dark patches on the skin can be frustrating and worrying. Many people are anxious to remove or reduce them in a safe and effective way.

It is also fairly common for irregular pigmentation to occur after an inflammatory event such as an insect bite or an acne spot. Again, this type of inflammation or damage can result in unwanted pigmentation.

With the recent advances in beauty products, most types of pigmentation are now treatable, helping to remove or greatly reduce areas of pigmentation or discoloration.
